The rotary encoder connects directly to the input of a Bikkel (pin 3 and 4) and makes the Bikkel a Dial operated dimmer.
What makes the rotary encoder unique, is that it can be used as either a press button dimmer or a rotary switch.
This dual interface within the same device is a world first and takes away doubt by buyers who are not sure which interface they prefer.
The rotary encoder is a low voltage device powered by the Bikkel itself and has no polarity.
Pressing on the knob connected to the rotary encoder makes the dimmer operate as a conventional press button dimmer. Alternatively rotating the dial can be used to dim the lights.
A press on a regular dial operated dimmer toggles the lights on or off and dims down to a minimum brightness. By default the Bikkel offers this feature as well. A special “dial to off” feature can be enabled which makes it possible to dial the brightness to complete OFF. This means that there is no need to press at all in order to switch off the lights. Dialing towards the minimum will switch off the lights instead of stopping at the minimum.
The shaft of the rotary encoder is 4mm. It comes with an adapter which makes it possible to use dials with a 6mm shaft as well.
The rotary encoder can be supplied with a European style mounting plate as an optional extra. What makes this mounting plate unique is that it is equipped with multiple mounting holes making it possible to configure this as a dual dial dimmer.
